Tips For Holding A Special Event At A Restaurant

by Gilbert Lopez

If you're planning a special event and need to decide on the perfect venue, you may be able to rent space in a local restaurant. When narrowing down a large list of options, consider your favorite type of cuisine, the age of the guests, the location, and the size of the event space.

A restaurant venue will work for any type of special event, ranging from kid-friendly to fancy. Some ideas include baby and bridal showers, bachelor and bachelorette parties, birthdays, holidays soirees, wedding receptions, family and class reunions, and anniversary and graduation celebrations.

No matter what size guest list you have, you should be able to find an eatery to accommodate it. For a larger party, for instance, consider renting a restaurant that offers a spacious banquet hall. For smaller soirees, intimate private dining rooms may fit the bill.

Here are some additional tips for holding any type of special event in a restaurant:

1. Reserve the Space and Plan the Menu ASAP

As soon as you decide on the eatery you want to host the party in, contact the special event coordinator and lock in the space as soon as possible. This is especially important during the busier times of the year, such as the holiday season. Restaurants with outdoor seating will be more in demand during the warm summer months as well.

After reserving the venue, work with the coordinator to come up with your ideal event menu. Consider if you want to go with all finger foods and appetizers, or if you'll be treating your guests to a full-course meal including drinks and desserts.

If you have any special requests, such as an all-vegetarian menu, let the chef know right away so that he or she can have all of the right ingredients on hand. If you're on a tight budget, you may be able to save money if you pick a prix fixe menu.

2. Set the Atmosphere

The atmosphere and feel of the space are almost as important at the party menu itself. For example, if you have an event theme, such as winter wonderland or summer garden, you can transform almost any venue with the right decorations.

Some ideas include table linens, including cloth napkins and seat covers, centerpieces, lighting elements, plants and flowers, balloons and hanging decor, and candles. You can enhance the items that the restaurant provides by bringing in your own decorative pieces to create a one-of-a-kind look.
